Joel Spolsky has gone offline. After 10 years of blogging at JoelOnSoftware.com, he’s decided it’s time to put his energy elsewhere.
He’s not going to blog as he has.
He’s giving up his Inc. Magazine column, “How Hard Could It Be?”
I don’t know how hard this decision was for Joel, but I suspect he may have experienced a few MMA type battles in his mind. Maybe not.
Most of us would die to have his Internet fame and celebrity. We work like crazy to “get known.” Admittedly, some of us don’t have much to be known for. Whoever said that everybody’s got something worthwhile to say clearly hasn’t met some of the people I know. I’m like Will Rogers. I was born in Oklahoma!
Well, I for one hope Mr. Spolsky is able to accomplish great things for himself and his company. I applaud his decision to swim against the stream. Contrarians are compelling characters to me. I’m not among those he aims to serve. I doubt I’ll ever be a customer of his because I’m simply not part of his target market. However, I confess I almost instantly like him more for his courage to make this hard decision.
How hard could it be? Time will tell. Good luck, Mr. Spolsky. I wish you well.
